Proper burning practices can prolong the life of your candle and give it a long, luminous life.
Proper Ventilation and Placement
Make sure you burn your candle in a well-ventilated room and keep it away from any drafts. Proper ventilation ensures that the flame burns cleanly, and avoiding drafts prevents uneven burning and excessive flickering. Protect the surface beneath the lit candle.
Initial lighting
The first time you burn your candle, light it long enough for the entire surface to melt. This is essential to prevent tunnelling and ensure your candle burns evenly in the future.
Burn Duration
A good rule of thumb is to limit each candle to 2 hours of burn time, but absolutely no more than 4 hours at a time. Always allow the candle and its container to cool completely before lighting it again. Always stop burning your candle when approximately 10mm of wax is left and never leave a lit candle unattended.
Trim your wick
It is a good practice to trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn to prevent soot and ensure a clean burn. You may use a wick trimmer or pinch off the excess wick with your fingers. Keeping the wick at the correct length will help your candle burn evenly, prevent it from burning too fast, and will increase its scent throw.
Additional Tips
Following safe burning practices ensures your home and loved ones are protected from potential fire hazards.
Protect the surface on which the lit candle sits. Prevents heat damage to your furniture or countertops. Never leave your candle unattended while it’s burning.
Keep candles far away from pets and children to prevent accidents. Never leave a child alone in a room with a lit candle.
Always extinguish your candle before going to bed or leaving the house.
Ensure hair and clothing are kept away from the flame when lighting a candle.
